June 21st Foster/Adoptive Payroll Run
Good Afternoon,
The Comptroller's Office ran into some technical problems last night when they were processing the 6/21/11 foster/adoptive payroll. They are in the process of correcting the problem but as a result several providers will experience a slight delay in getting their checks and EFT deposits. Please share with appropriate staff.
We will keep you posted.
Take Care

Golf Scholarship Opportunity in Middleton
I wanted to reach out to the Salem office about an amazing scholarship opportunity at Ferncroft Country Club for a year-long golf program. The info is below! They have had great success with DCF kids in the past. If you are able, please forward this email along to your social workers to see if anyone would be a good match. If you have any questions, feel free to call Phil Leiss at the number below.
Best,

The key elements of the Junior Scholarship Program are:
Access is the cornerstone of the Program, because the lack of it is why more children do not play golf. Junior scholarships winners are granted Junior Membership to Ferncroft CC allowing them to develop all aspects of their game on our recently-renovated practice range, chipping green, putting green, and short game area. Young golfers receive on-course instruction and begin playing on our par three course, with the opportunity to graduate to the Championship Robert Trent Jones, Sr. golf course that hosted the LPGA’s Boston Five Classic from 1980-90. The Program also provides transportation to the golf course as needed on a case-by-case basis (subject to availability).
Instruction is provided by Ferncroft CC’s professional golf staff under the supervision of Head Golf Professional Philip Leiss. Junior scholarship winners attend ongoing clinics and individual lessons customized to each participant’s skill level. In addition to skill development, instruction addresses etiquette, dress code, and speed of play. Each junior scholarship award winner attends at least five clinics and has access to at least five individual lessons annually.
Equipment is available to all junior scholarship winners including new golf clubs, golf bag, hat and golf shirt. All equipment is customized by age and height.
The Program identifies disadvantaged youths through an application process with grants made on an annual basis. Applications are accepted via the Internet, by mail, by fax, or in person, and they are not limited by location of residence. Click here for a print version of the application.
For more information, please call Phil Leiss at (978) 739-4040 x22 or visit the Ferncroft website.

FW: CLOTHING ALLOWANCE ACTION ALERT
Dear MAFF Board Members
As you know the Senate Budget contains language providing an opportunity to reverse what will otherwise be a 25% cut to the clothing allowance for FY 12.
The Conference Committee comprised of six legislators three Representatives and three Senators has begun negotiations on their fiscal year 2012 budget recommendation which will soon be sent to the Governor's desk for final approval.
For the cut to be reversed it is vital that this language and the highest possible funding level for DCF services are included in that final budget
Please call your Representative and Senator and ask them ask the members of the Conference Committee to retain
1) The foster care clothing allowance language in line item 4800-0015
2) The House funding level for line items 4800-0038 and 4800-0040
If you would prefer to use our automated system go to http://www.capwiz.com/mspcc/home/ and click on ACT NOW TO preserve services for at risk children
Not sure who your Senator or Representative is? Go to: www.malegislature.gov/People/FindMyLegislator
We are down to the wire on this and your efforts have made a big difference in keeping this alive so pass the word and keep the pressure on!

FW: DCF FOSTER YOUTH/GRANT
Hi Jose,
How are you? Summer is finally upon us so it seems! I am emailing because the North Shore Career Center is working on a grant right now with the City of Salem and we have a 15% window of youth who are DCF/DYS or foster youth. I was hoping that you might have some students from the walk in center that might be interested in working this summer. They need to become a member of the Career Center and have to participate in our workshops. If you might have some youth interested can you send me over their names and phone numbers so I can get in contact with them. Let me know. Thanks so much!
