Subject: Foster Care and Subsidy Rates

Dear Colleagues,

Later this month, the Department will be sending a letter to foster and adopting parents announcing a rate increase for both daily care and for quarterly clothing.  This change will allow us to reimburse our foster care and adopting parents a new daily rate as of March 1, 2012.  And it will change the quarterly clothing grant with the May payment.  This increase is consistent with the language in the Act to Protect Children in the Care of the Commonwealth, passed by the Legislature in July 2008, and it is supported by Governor Patrick's Fiscal Year 2013 budget released in January 2012.

The new rates will be added to FamilyNet today so that Departmental foster care placements/service referrals that are effective March 1st or later can refer to the new rates.  In addition, these rates should be referenced for any new adoption/guardianshp subsidies for chldren whose adoptions and guardianships are allowed in court after March 1, 2012.

New rates effective March 1, 2012 are:

Ages  0-5        $20.79/day

Ages  6-12      $23.40/day

Ages 13+        $24.79/day

Quarterly clothing effective May are:

Ages 0-5        $185.00/quarter

Ages 6-12      $188.75/quarter

Ages 13+       $282.00/quarter (no change)

This is great news for our foster/adopting parents, made possible with the support of the Governor and the Legislature.

Take care,

Angelo
