Subject: Tuition and Fee Funding has Passed both HOUSE and SENATE

GOOD NEWS!!!
The funding for the spring semester tuiton and fees has been approved by both the House and the Senate as part of the 2012 Supplemental Budget which is now headed to the Governors Desk.

We are in the home stretch now and your voices are more critical than ever to ensuring this funding recieves final approval.

So we are asking you to once again reach out to every foster and adopted parent you know especially those with kids who will benefit from the waiver- and ask them to make four very important contacts:

        *       Call or e-mail Governor Deval Patrick and urge him to support funding for the spring semester for foster youth and youth adopted from DCF care to attend state colleges and universities at the level provided for in the 2012 Supplemental Budget. 617-725-4000 http://www.mass.gov/governor/constituentservices/contact/

*       Call or e-mail Senate President Therese Murray, Senate Ways and Means Chairman Stephen Brewer and YOUR State Senator to thank them for including funding for state college tuition and fee waivers for DCF involved youth in their supplemental budget recommendation. A thank you now will go a long way to building our base of support for including these funds in the FY13 budget..

Senate President Murray: 617-722-1500,  therese.murray@masenate.gov

Chairman Brewer: 617-722-1540, Stephen.Brewer@masenate.gov

If you don't' know who your Senator is you can find out at www.wheredoivotema.com <http://www.wheredoivotema.com/> .

As always please let me know if you have questions.

      ACTION ALERT

January 12, 2012

Budget proposal includes $1.8 million for state college tuition assistance for DCF-involved youth.

Contact House Members and tell them to support this funding!

We are thrilled that the 2012 supplemental budget proposal released by the House Ways and Means Committee today includes $1.8 million for state college tuition assistance and fee waivers for foster youth and youth adopted from DCF care.

We all know the importance and life changing impact of a college education, and this funding provides critical support for youth who may not otherwise have the financial ability to attend college.

We need YOUR help to ensure that this vital funding is passed.  Please reach out to House leadership and your Representative THIS WEEK and let them know that this funding is important to you.   Please follow these two steps:
  1. Click here to e-mail Speaker DeLeo and Chairman Dempsey and thank them for their leadership on this issue.
  2. Click here to e-mail your Representative and tell them you want their vote for this funding.
It's quick and easy.  We've created the template for you.  Take a minute to personalize the message with some information about yourself and why you care about this funding and then send.

Thank you for helping to ensure that all Massachusetts children have the opportunity for a college education and a brighter future.
