Dear Carla,

February 2012:

FAMILY ROUNDS
Family Rounds: free lectures for parents and professionals

February 16, 2012, 12 noon - 1:30 p.m.

Davenport 4, Boardroom, NSMC Salem Hospital

"Navigating the Children's Behavior Health Initiative (CBHI):  An Introduction to community-based behavioral health services provided by MassHealth"

Presenter:  Jessica Berry, Staff Attorney - Children's Law Center of Massachusetts

As a result of a lawsuit brought on behalf of kids with mental health needs who receive MassHealth, Massachusetts has developed a new (and sometimes complicated) array of community-based behavioral health services available to children who receive MassHealth.

This training will introduce you to those services, walk you through how to access those services for your own child or a child you work with, and talk about how to overcome some of the obstacles to obtaining those services.  It will also discuss how to enroll a child in MassHealth even when the child does not qualify based on the family's income and/or private insurance already.

Registration is required as space is limited: email or call 978 354 2670.  CME credit will be available at the completion of the presentation.

The 8 week Mindfulness for Salem High School students pilot class beginning in October is extended.

This pilot class helps students learn to recognize signs of stress and develop strategies for stress reduction through meditation practices. A new group has joined the Salem high school students for another six weeks. They are receptive to sharing and understanding the effects of stress and trying new techniques to access their own inner peace.
